Ross Mason, Founder

Ross Mason has a 25 year career as an entrepreneur, angel, and venture capital investor focused on health innovation. He is the founder of Samaritan's Road International (sroadi.com), an international healthcare consulting firm and serves as an advisor to three healthcare focused venture capital funds.
 

Ross lived and worked in Silicon Valley from 1999 to 2004 where he started and sold a healthcare software company. He worked for Volkswagen’s €280 million Healthcare Venture Accelerator Fund and €500 million innovation campus in Wolfsburg, Germany. Ross was an Associate in Private Banking at Morgan Stanley (New York, London, Zurich, Moscow, and Atlanta), and created a real estate investment and development company in Moscow, Russia that he owned and operated for 12 years. 


In 2004, Ross created the High Impact Network of Responsible Innovators (HINRI), a venture philanthropy focused on solving today's most difficult healthcare challenges. HINRI has two objectives: (1) to match the resource with the need while ministering to giver and recipient, with the focus on Christ, and (2) to make Atlanta the global leader in health innovation. 


On August 2, 2007, Ross broke his neck in a bicycle accident and was paralyzed from his collarbones down. Prior to his accident, Ross was actively involved in triathlons, wreck, cave, and ice diving, surfing, rock and ice climbing. He is now committed to bringing that same drive, passion, and spirit of adventure to serving others through the work of HINRI. HINRI has created more than 65 programs, partnerships, and initiatives in almost 120 countries.


Ross is the former Chairman of the Georgia Department of Community Health Board, the 3rd largest health plan in the United States with a $11.2 billion annual budget and 660,000 covered lives. He is the former Chairman of the Commercialization Advisory Board for the Praxis Spinal Cord Institute in Vancouver, BC and helped create the world’s largest clinical trial and research network for spinal cord injury. Ross holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Georgia Tech, where he was student body president, and a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from The Wharton School. 


Ross was a missionary with Cru in Poland, Operation Mobilization in St. Petersburg, Russia, and a volunteer in an AIDS  hospital in Zimba, Zambia. He is an Honorary Knight of Grace in the Sovereign Order of St. John (The Knights Hospitallers), the oldest order of Christian Knights in the world.

Samaritan’s Road International (SRI) Atlanta, GA Founder and CEO 2009 - Present SRI is a consulting firm that provides strategic and financial advisory services to venture funds, physician practice groups, private investors, and early stage companies in healthcare IT, medical device, regenerative medicine, logistics, mobile health, healthcare services, and telemedicine. We have also advised a number of healthcare venture funds and helped them raise capital including: TenVC ($50 million raised), Elementum ($100 million), Incube Labs Venture Fund ($200 million), Beneventure Partners (raising $250 million), Eventide Healthcare Ventures (raising $350 million), and ICW Venture Fund (€280 million). Working with a team to acquire controlling interest of Forbes Magazine (who was hired by Steve Forbes, and the C-Suite of Forbes). To date, the team has raised more than $700 million in equity. Launched an MLK k-12 educational curriculum in public schools in 7 states and created the Andrew Young Historically Black College and University (HBCU) scholarship program with McGraw Hill. Consulting for Early Stage Healthcare Companies and Start-Ups: Jackson Healthcare (JHC) is one of the largest healthcare staffing companies in the U.S. with over $3.5 billion in annual revenue. JHC serves more than 10 million patients in more than 3,500 healthcare facilities. JHC also provides hospitals with logistical solutions for patient throughput and systemic operational efficiency. Engaged by the Founder, Chairman and CEO Rick Jackson in January 2013 to provide strategic advice for all 17 of his healthcare presidents For ten years, I have worked with JHC to secure clients, address technology needs, introduce strategic partners and provide strategic advice In November 2014, Rick Jackson asked me to begin identifying potential investments and acquisitions for JHC and his personal portfolio Incube Labs, founded by Mir Imran, commercializes all of Mir’s inventions. To date, there have been 26 IPOs and sales of his companies. In 2015, I began working for Mir and in the first ten months he sold three companies for $1.2 billion. I am now a shareholder in his company RANI Therapeutics and a board member of his spinal cord injury company. Developed technical and scientific knowledge in biomedical research, bio-tech, and med-tech. Helped Patientco secure its first assisted living client with 27,000 patients. HealthPons is a search engine that allows patients to purchase and book medical appointments online. Secured a $850,000 angel investment and helped HealthPons raise $5 million. Martin Imaging is bringing state-of-the-art diagnostic technology to cardiac patients and their doctors, while dramatically reducing cost and risk. Helped Martin Imaging raise a $3 million series A. Incube Labs is a manufacturing and product development company focused on the medical device market and creating medical solutions that change the standard of care in critical healthcare markets. Helped Incube raise their 3rd venture fund - $200 million. Secured a commitment from the GA Board of Regents to invest $75 million to create an Incube Labs Incubator in GA. OneCare improves health outcomes and reduces medical expenses without any cost to the consumer by empowering individuals with the tools and information they need to live a healthier, happier life and take control of their health information. Secured a term sheet for a $6 million investment. Georgia Public Policy Foundation is improving the lives of Georgians through public policies that enhance economic opportunity and freedom. Wrote healthcare strategy white papers for GA GOV Sonny Perdue and GA GOV Nathan Deal. Developed a statewide telemedicine network strategy and implemented it. ML Healthcare provides healthcare services to clients involved in injuries resulting from negligence through an extensive provider network with a wide range of healthcare support and services. Worked with the founder to find a buyer for the business. Peachtree Spine is an independent physiatry practice with 6 locations in the metro Atlanta area focused on eliminating neck and back pain. Wrote the business plan, developed the strategy, raised the capital, secured clients, and hired a management team to launch a telemedicine company. Sinapis Pharma is an early detection stroke technology company that uses low doses of methamphetamine. Secured a $6 million series A investment.
